Hello. My name is Kendra Rose Curry and I am 15 years old. Currently I attend Bethel High School and I am a freshmen which is really awesome, especially because I have an exciting experience to look forward to next year. For the 2011/12 school year I will embark on a life changing journey to Germany! Since 7th grade I've had this idea in my mind that I WILL be going abroad my sophomore year and no one will stop me. Honestly I am a very headstrong person who likes their way, but at the same time I know when to step back and let other people lead because their ideas are better. I love to play sports all year round. I play field hockey in the fall and then I play softball non stop. In the summer I play travel, fall I attend clinics, winter I go to indoor lessons and practices, and then spring is high school team time. I find that sports not only will keep you in shape, but will help you develop friendships with others that maybe you wouldn't have become friends with if you weren't on the same team. My favorite color is purple if you were wondering, I literally love anything that is purple if people were purple I would probably die of excitement and then ask them how they got to be that way. I would say though, that my true passions in life are fashion and makeup. I know that most 15 year olds don't normally say what they want to be or do but I just know in my heart that it is meant to be. Also I'm pretty sure I am addicted to shopping and go shopping a lot more then I should.
Honestly I expect to gain a lot from this experience as a whole. I mean doesn't it start already? I've basically been through the whole application process and could give so many tips to those who are inquiring for them. Maybe I'll post my top tips for those who are going through the application process. Although I was lucky enough to have two families in my town who have had about four kids go in total, so there were always there to help. On the 30th I will be going to a orientation that will consist of kids who are going to Germany within my area so even from there I will start to connect with others who are going through the same thing as me. Naturally I am an open person when comes to saying how I feel and my opinions but I feel that going through this whole AFS process will only enhance that even more. When it comes to living in a host country though I really don't want to have a lot of expectations because having a lot can lead to let downs and I just want the full impact of the program and not my failed expectations. Truly I am going into this with a very open mind and heart for another culture, life, and family.
Let's put this on the table, most people are going to need help with their AFS tuition, and even if they say they don't it would be nice. To quote my Personal Finance teacher though "never turn down free money". Which is very true because why spend $50 of your own money on a new pair of shoes if your mom is offering to split it so you only have to pay $25, doesn't that make more sense? In my mind it does, well in most people's minds it does. I am helping to pay for my study abroad trip by babysitting and soccer refereeing, which in my state is really the only thing someone at 15 can do as a job per say. Also I will be saving any extra cash that I possess to go towards my spending money while abroad. To sponsor my AFS program now, please click the ChipIn button.
